——the actual prompt—-

**2023 June #1 – Penta Gastro Inversion Waltz **

**Word Prompt:** Any word associated with an animal digestive tract.

**Music Prompt:** Use the notes C, E, F in 3/4 6 note melody, not counting ties but counting slurs. Using your first note as the mid point and the last note as the end point for both lines, invert the melody in the same rhythm. You’ll end up with unison, dyad , dyad, dyad, unison.

I’ll screenshot an example using 7 notes in 4/4, but remember we only want five for this and in 3/4.

Then use that in a track or piece.

The example shown also gets into inexact inversion to keep it in key but that’s your choice, as is tempo and anything else I didn’t mention.

Easy way to do this is to write the melody on staff paper or in midi and look at the staff and count until you hit the next note, then count in the opposite direction for the “inverted” note. Just keep in mind that moving it up or down from that landing place is ok too. So if you count up two in the original melody, count down two for the inversion. If you don’t like that, go one more. You might like it now!

Overall, don’t get too hung up and have fun.

Inspired by an exercise from the William Russo book Composing Music.

I’m A Man Who Manufactures by Microtherapist (27 Apr 2023)

https://youtu.be/jPUamwpIBBI I did the recording for this on 27 Apr 2023. This was Day 1173 in the ongoing 100 Day Project timeline. For this, I used ReasonVST, specifically Subtractor within Ableton Live.

I recorded & remixed this in Massapequa, NY for Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories & Blister Pop Unlimited.

I took the artwork photography on 12 Apr 2021, most likely in New York City, moving between the Guggenheim Museum on 5th Ave between 88th and 89th Streets and Matsu Sushi on 70th St, near 1st Ave.

“Dig Yourself” by Microtherapist (09 Jan 2020)

https://youtu.be/1EwZXCpfvDg I did the recording for this on 09 Jan 2020 was on Day 281 in the ongoing 100 Day Project timeline. It was one of 7 pieces I started that day. I used the Redshrike synth iOS app by Icegear/Iceworks. My guess is that I did this in Audiobus and on an iPad, but I have no further notes.

I recorded & remixed this in Massapequa, NY for Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories & Blister Pop Unlimited.

I took the artwork photography at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, NY on 15 Jan 2020.

“Freeze A Jolly Good Fellow” by Microtherapist (01 Dec 2019)

https://youtu.be/2GDB7y9VlhI I did the original recording for this on 01 Dec 2019 was on Day 243 in the ongoing 100 Day Project timeline. It was one of four pieces I started that day. I used a granular looping Max 4 Live instrument called Iota by Dillon Baston alongside native Ableton Live devices.

On 05 Mar 2023, I took a slightly slower version of the original captured audio and mixed it with another rerun of the same system into the final piece heard here.

The title for this piece was from a notebook I used between approximately 1987-1997. Working title for this piece was “FroScienBnc.”

I recorded & remixed this in Massapequa, NY for Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories & Blister Pop Unlimited.

On a walk around the neighborhood, I took the artwork photography here on 07 Dec 2014, almost 5 years before the original recording.

“Momentary Pure Glaze” by Microtherapist

https://youtu.be/N9NuCkZqYA4 The original recording for this was on 16 Dec 2019 was Day 258 in the ongoing 100 Day Project timeline.

This was a generative sequence based on the notes G3, F#3, D#3 & C#3. I used Ableton Live & Operator, the Max 4 Live device “Expression Control” by schlam to interpret velocity. This was then run through two different delays which would be activated by different note velocities. On the original recording day, I captured two stereo variations and these were allowed to run together throughout the entirely of the piece from start to finish. Using this as it existed, I did some additional stretching on 05 Feb 2023 to make the piece run slower.

The title for this piece came from a head revision of a poem I wrote on a train on 22 Jan 2020 called “Song 92.”

I recorded this in Massapequa, NY for Blissville Electro-Magnetic Laboratories & Blister Pop Unlimited.

I took the artwork photography here as well as some others to be included in an album released centered on 17 Dec 2019 from a car in Manhattan, NY, USA.
